Students will propose, develop, and complete an independent capstone project, including a seminar-length paper and a presentation, in Disability Studies. You will identify a topic within the field of Disability Studies of special interest to you, and about which you believe you can contribute knowledge and perspective to positively impact your career path, educational area, or other spheres of influence, including individual, family, institutional, cultural, political, national, or global communities. Disability studies topics can include but are not limited to activism, access and access barriers, historical developments, policy, intersectional perspectives, and Crip theory. The work in this course may be combined with or complement a research assistantship, undergraduate teaching assistantship, directed readings list, or internship. Presentation of research might be informal or formal, including a presentation at UC’s Undergraduate Scholarly Showcase. The course is primarily for students completing a Disability Studies certificate and/or a Liberal Arts degree with a major in Medicine, Health & Society. The project must be developed with appropriate faculty guidance and relevant supervisory body (Disability Studies certificate director, Liberal Arts in Medicine, Health & Society director, or the A&S Interdisciplinary Council)
