MWF 12:20-1:15 PM
This course is designed to introduce students to the basic principles in the study of linguistics. The course will begin with an exploration of the structure of language, which includes grammar, semantics, morphology, and phonology. After that, students will learn about the social influences on language, such as how slang develops, what makes a word taboo, how does someone learn a language, how does language change, what was language like before writing, and what influences does the digital age have on language. Students may even learn the answer to the age old question: If the plural of goose is geese, why isn’t the plural of moose meese?
