Looking for a chance to refine your expository, argumentative, or analytical writing skills? This course will give you a chance to do just that. You’ll produce, through a series of drafts and revisions, a well-crafted, lively critical essay on a topic of your own choosing. Because the class format is a workshop, your writing will be at the center of the course. Workshops will focus on the following issues: asking researchable, relevant, and timely questions; formulating and developing an argumentative or analytical standpoint; gathering and presenting evidence; constructing an appropriate voice and style in relation to audience and purpose; sifting through readers’ comments; and editing and revising for clarity, cohesion, and correctness. Students from any discipline will be encouraged to write about topics that are relevant and compelling to them.
