Instructor: Homsher TR 12:30 PM – 1:50 PM
In this fiction workshop, we will explore the future of storytelling in an age of rapidly evolving technology. How are writers experimenting with existing forms and genres in response to shifts in the media landscape? Can fiction about the 21st century be “timeless,” or will references to contemporary technology and pop culture quickly date our work? How do we write about a cultural moment in which truth often seems stranger than fiction? What new possibilities emerge for literature, expression, and representation in the digital age?
To engage with these questions, we will read a range of contemporary short stories alongside critical and theoretical works on craft, digital identities, and cyberculture. Students will also produce their own fiction, experimenting with narrative forms that incorporate social media, video games, and other hybrid storytelling platforms.
