Instructor: Machado TR 3:30 PM – 4:50 PM
In this capstone course, students will learn to incorporate research into a semester-long creative project (a series of poems, a longform essay, a combination of the two, or a hybrid text of some kind). We’ll study how a range of published writers do the work of research, what their methods are, and how their findings get written into a literary form. Some such methods are: hands-on data collection; somatics; interviews; travel; library/archival research; and divination. This is a discussion-based and workshop-intensive course in which students write, offer and receive critique, and revise their writing on a regular basis. Note: This course does not accommodate fiction writing.
