Title: Queer American Literature, 1900 to Present
Description: This class will engage a variety of genres and authors across the 20th and 21st centuries to explore how the language to describe gender and sexuality has evolved. Moving away from an understanding of queerness and transness as recent cultural phenomena, we will consider a longer history of gender and sexual diversity, using both fiction and nonfiction to think through how LGBTQ+ identities and sexual cultures have been represented and (mis)understood both before and after the sexual revolution and the advent of the queer liberation movement.
